★★★★★ Everything Theatre: “[Director] Roberta Zuric really brought the story to life using the little space available in the library… It could easily have been a traditional theatre.” “Marley was dead, to begin with.”
Librarian Theatre’s original adaptation of A Christmas Carol re-imagined Charles Dickens’ classic story of Victorian England in the post-war 1940s, when women who had taken over the reins of business were adjusting to peacetime once again. Meet the most miserly lady in London: Ebeneza Scrooge, played by Sarah Ratheram. As the story unfolds she is visited by the spirit of her late partner Jacob Marley, who is swiftly followed by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.
Directed by Roberta Zuric, the dynamic, 70-minute story is told by three narrators, played by Amy Mallett, Kelly Eva-May and Tom Cuthbertson, who step in and out of the many other characters in the play, using puppetry and audience interaction to bring the timeless tale to life in the library.
