★★★★  Outline Magazine:  “The Book’s the Thing  demonstrated of the strength of theatre, and also the fruits of innovation. Their version of Hamlet was reduced, but only in a delicious, red wine sauce kinda way.”

Librarian Theatre’s debut production of The Book’s the Thing premiered at the Gorringe Park Secret Library Bar on 8 April 2016, before touring 39 UK libraries across 13 different library authorities.

In partnership with Hertfordshire Libraries and the Readeast Network, the tour received a substantial grant from Arts Council England’s Libraries Fund. The tour coincided with the 450th ‘anniversary’ of Shakespeare’s death, marked by a gala performance in the atmospheric Reading Room at Bristol Central Library.

Directed by Tom Cuthbertson, this fast-paced, 80-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy starred Kelly Eva-May in the lead role of the Prince of Denmark.

The other roles were performed by Sarah Ratheram, Keith Hill and Tom Cuthbertson. The script was edited specifically for the library touring production; replacing the famous ‘play within a play’ scene with a book. Copies of the script are available on request for £5 + P&P.
